Privacy Policy — YouTube Summary
Last updated: 13 August 2026
YouTube Summary (“the extension”) is a browser extension that shows the transcript and an AI-generated summary of the YouTube video you are watching, and can send that text to your own Telegram. This policy explains what data the extension and its backend process, and why.
Controller / contact: Ilya Saykov — info@ilyasaykov.com.
What we process
Without signing in (transcript):
-
The video identifier of the page you request a transcript for. It is sent
to our backend (
yts.ilyasaykov.com), which fetches the video's public captions and returns the text. - Your IP address, used only to apply an anti-abuse rate limit (a per-day request count). We do not build advertising or tracking profiles from it.
When you sign in with Google (summary):
- Your Google account identifier and email address, obtained through Google Sign-In (OAuth). We use them to recognise your account and enforce a per-account daily limit on summaries.
- The transcript of the video you summarise, which is sent to our AI provider to generate the summary. We store the resulting daily usage count, not the transcripts of every video.
- Your Google name and profile photo are read in your browser to display your avatar in the panel. This information is not sent to or stored on our servers.
If you link Telegram (optional):
- Your Telegram chat ID, so that “Send to Telegram” can deliver the transcript/summary to your own chat with our bot. Linking is initiated by you and can be undone by blocking the bot.
Third parties
- Google — authentication (Google Sign-In). Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI — generates the summary from the transcript text. The transcript is sent to OpenAI for processing.
- Telegram — delivers text to your chat, only if you linked your account.
We do not sell or rent your data, show ads, or share your data with anyone outside the uses described above.
Retention
- Account record (Google account id, email, optional Telegram chat id) and daily usage counters are kept while your account is active.
- Anti-abuse IP counters are transient and reset over time.
- You can request deletion of your account data at any time by emailing info@ilyasaykov.com.
Your choices
- The transcript works without signing in.
- You can revoke the extension's access to your Google account at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- You can unlink Telegram by blocking the bot.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will reflect any change. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
